A few months ago at one of the numerous exhibitions, seminars or conferences that the mobile phone industry insists are part of its everyday life, I casually asked one of the resident experts what he thought of Apple's new iPhone. "Well of course.." he replied, giving the impression that he was rather bored by the fuss surrounding the latest must have gadget, "....it isn't the most advanced phone around but on the other hand it has put ease-of-use at the top of the agenda for everyone..."
Well, Mr expert I thought…. exactly.
At last someone has produced a phone that people can actually use, what is more Apple seem to have focused their efforts on making it easy to do the things that people really do want a phone for that is, with apologies for stating the obvious, making phone calls!
I am not too bothered about the fact that it doesn't have the best camera around, like most people, if I want to take a photograph I'll use my digital camera. On the other hand, I am interested in the fact that this fancy new device that allows me to collect my e-mails anywhere I can get a signal, and what's more if it's 3G. signal reasonably quickly and if I'm anywhere near one of the local "Cloud" hotspots, extremely quickly - and at no extra costs with the extremely reasonable all-inclusive tariffs.
As a final plus they've actually managed to give us a proper keyboard for composing text messages. I, along with most of the rest of the world have spent the last 20 years becoming vaguely familiar with the standard computer keyboard, such that my typing is "respectable" unlike my predictive texting which is endlessly punctuated by missing words out and numerous mistakes where I've been too busy swearing at the keyboard to notice what I've actually typed.
I'd like to take this opportunity to apologize all my friends and colleagues who have been texting me for many years and have been frustrated by perpetual lack of response. With my new iPhone I've become a texting maniac! So a warning now if a I may, watch out - if you text me now I WILL text back - in fact you'll have trouble is shutting me up.
Oh By the way, I almost forgot - its an iPod too! I’ve uploaded my entire Abba collection - cool or what!

The i-phone is so cool that when using the Web browser if you tilt it on its side it will actually rotate the picture for you! |
